What Best Before is
Best Before is a simple iOS app that tracks when the things you own expire: groceries, cosmetics, medicine, anything with a date. Add an item with a name and an expiry date. Best Before reminds you before it runs out. You can point the camera at a product to fill in the name and read the date.
Your items are stored on your device and, when iCloud is on, in your own iCloud, so your devices share one list. There are no accounts and no sign-in.
How to get in touch
Email: support@bestb4.app.
When you write, include your iOS version, your device model, and a short note on what you expected and what happened instead.
FAQ
Where is my data stored? On your device and, if iCloud is on, in your private iCloud, so your other devices see the same list. We cannot read it. Item names, dates, PAO information and notes never reach us, except in a backup you export yourself. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What does the camera scan send? When you scan a product, one photo is sent to the recognition server to suggest a product name. Then it is discarded. It is never stored, and the request does not identify you. The expiry date is read on your device. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Can I turn off analytics? Yes. Settings has an Analytics toggle. It is on by default. Switching it off stops analytics and crash reporting.
How do reminders work? Best Before schedules local notifications before an item expires. By default, 7 days before and on the day it expires. You can change which days in Settings. Make sure notifications are allowed for Best Before in iOS Settings.
How do I back up or move my data?
Export a backup from Settings. You get a .bestbefore file. Save or share it
wherever you like. On another device, open the file — from Files, Mail or a
message — and confirm the import. With iCloud on, your own devices sync by
themselves; the backup is for keeping a copy or moving without iCloud.
Why is a name suggestion sometimes wrong or missing? Recognition is only a suggestion. If it is wrong or empty, type the name yourself. Date reading on the device does not depend on it.
